Contracting for Quality: Medicare's Quality Improvement Organizations

This meeting examined the role of quality improvement organizations (QIOs) in clinical quality improvement and beneficiary education and protection. Speakers described various aspects of these organization: their evolution, the changes in their priorities over time, and their function as vehicles for quality improvement across populations. Discussion explored their potential role as agents in the articulation and execution of a coordinated national quality policy.
