Pharmacy Benefits: New Concepts in Plan Design

This meeting examined changes in prescription drug benefit coverage in large-employer plans and implications for a Medicare prescription drug benefit program. Speakers described current trends in plan design, such as the use of multitier copayments, and discussed the role of pharmacy benefit managers in implementing these designs. Panelists also discussed how these changes impacted consumers and retail pharmacies. The cost implications of various pharmacy benefit plan designs for Medicare were also discussed.
