Sharon Levine, MD, is an associate executive director for The Permanente Medical Group in Northern California, and has served in that role since 1991. She has responsibility for clinical education, management training, and leadership development for the group’s physicians; government and community relations, health policy, and external affairs; and pharmacy policy and drug use management.

A board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Levine has held multiple leadership roles within The Permanente Medical Group, as well as academic appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine (1973-1974) and Georgetown University School of Medicine (1976-1977), and spent two years as a clinical associate at the National Institutes of Health, Institute of Child Health and Human Development (1975-1976).

Dr. Levine serves on the Board of Directors, and is currently the chair of the Board, of the Public Health Institute of California; the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the California Association of Physician Groups (CAPG); board member, The Reagan Udall Foundation; and the Medical Board of California; and is a member of the Committee on Evidence-Based Benefit Design of the National Business Group on Health. She was appointed in September 2010 to a six-year term on the Board of Governors of the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), created by the Affordable Care Act.

A native of Boston, Dr. Levine received her undergraduate degree from Radcliffe College at Harvard University (1967), and her MD degree from Tufts University School of Medicine (1971). She completed her internship and residency at The Boston Floating Hospital, Tufts University School of Medicine in 1974.
