Kyle R. Allen, DO, is the chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and the medical director of the Institute for Senior and Post Acute Care for Summa Health System.
Dr. Allen graduated from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM), and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in geriatric medicine from the ABFM. He is a professor of both internal and family medicine at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and Pharmacy. Dr. Allen recently completed the Practice Change Fellows Program, a national leadership development program for geriatric leaders and clinicians, and now serves on the national advisory board for this organization.
Under Dr. Allen’s leadership, Summa Health System has achieved national attention for research, innovative models of care, and success in demonstrating the value of geriatric and palliative care to hospitals and the community. He was the principal investigator for several federally funded clinical trials, and his research interests include chronic illness care management and transitional care.
As a geriatric medicine specialist and researcher, Dr. Allen’s work focuses on developing and implementing geriatric medicine services for older adults, their families and caregivers, and physicians who provide the patient’s primary care. He has authored and co-authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, and abstracts and regularly gives presentations across the country and internationally.
