Joe Boyce, MD, MS, is the chief information officer and the chief medical information officer at Heartland Health/Mosaic Life Care, a nonprofit health care system and Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient, located in St. Joseph and Kansas City, Missouri. Prior to joining Heartland in 2009, Dr. Boyce was responsible for physician workflow designs at Cerner Corporation in Kansas City. His work history also includes service as a NASA flight surgeon in Houston from 1986 to 1991, followed by five years practicing occupational medicine and medical technology development at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dr. Boyce spent 11 years at Intermountain Healthcare, an internationally recognized, nonprofit system of 22 hospitals serving patients in Utah and southeastern Idaho. There, he was a regional informaticist, developing advanced software designs and mobile, Picture Archiving and Communications System, documentation, and other solutions.
Dr. Boyce received a bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Oklahoma, where he also received a medical degree and completed his internship in internal medicine in 1984. He has a master’s degree in science from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and he is board-certified in preventive/aerospace medicine.
