Summary

This session explored the opportunities and potential pitfalls in communicating to beneficiaries about Medicare+Choice. In a discussion of the Health Care Financing Administration's strategy for educating beneficiaries about their plan options, the focus was on the agency's efforts to implement a National Medicare Education Program. Speakers also looked at the difficulties inherent in communicating complex information to a diverse group of older individuals. The session also drew from the experiences of large employers who have used a variety of communication techniques to move retirees into Medicare HMOs. The marketing practices of Medicare HMOs in Florida were also explored.
